NEWS WEEK ENDING OCTOBER 20

SHENINGTON GREEN

The editors Claire and Tricia are starting to put together the Winter issue of the Shenington Green so they are calling for articles, news items and ideas for topics you would like covered. They would love to hear from new people about new things, so don't be shy, make this the issue to which you wish to contribute.

Are you new to the village or have you got a new neighbour? Please let them know so they can welcome them. Did you take some photos of the summer village events? They would love to publish some colourful memories.

Whether a regular contribution or something completely new, it would be great if you could send a quick email as soon as you can, to let them know if they should be expecting something. Then the deadline for submissions is October 31st.

Contact the editors Tricia Dempsey (tel. 01295 670433) and Claire Dumbreck (tel. 01295 678953) or email at sheningtongreen@gmail.com if you have any questions.

SHENINGTON WITH ALKERTON 100 CLUB

For just £2 a month you have the chance to win the first prize of £50 in the monthly draw, while at the same time helping to preserve the Village Hall. Over the last three years the club has contributed £2,051 to the maintenance of the hall. Each month there is a draw and 50% of the income is divided amongst three lucky winners.

The Club is open to all members of the villages of Shenington and Alkerton provided they are over 16. Numbers are still available on a pro rata basis. Application forms are available at The Bell or from Maria Evans (phone 01295 670016) for anyone wishing to take part.

VILLAGE CALENDAR

Preparations for the 2019 Village Calendar are underway with a deadline of October 31. If you would like to submit a photo to appear in the calendar please send it in as soon as possible

There's no theme this time so let your creative juices flow or just send one in you've taken previously. Photographs of this year's Shenfest, Village Fete, Village BBQ, or the upcoming Wine Tasting would be very welcome.

You can email your photos to Arlene Jasko <boyarka@aol.com or alternatively  post them in the  letterbox at 2 The Green (letterbox sited on Kenhill Road) - please include your name and address so that they can be  returned.

If you run a business and would like to sponsor the calendar by advertising in it, please do let Arlene know. The deadline for submitting an advert is October 20.

VILLAGE HALL SOCIAL COMMITTEE

At its recent meeting the Social Committee agreed arrangements for the following two events in the village hall.

The Over Sixties Christmas Tea on Friday, December 7.

They are updating the guest list so if you are over sixty and would like an invitation to this event please let Maria Evans know. Tel 01295 670016 or email mariae623@gmail.com.

The Christmas Bingo on Monday, December 10 at 7.30.

As usual there will be seasonal prizes and refreshments. All ages are welcome.

The Social Committee have forwarded a cheque for £1059.50 to the Village Hall Charitable Trust from the proceeds of the last twelve months 100 Club. Many thanks to all those who organise it and those who take part.

In addition, on Saturday, November 3, there will be planting of daffodil bulbs. Volunteers would be appreciated to help plant. Please come to the Green at 11.00 am with a spade.
