NEWS WEEK ENDING FEBRUARY 17

WHIST DRIVE

The whist drive held on February 6 raised £20 for church funds. The next whist drive will be on Tuesday, February 20 at 7.30pm in the village hall

BELL INN

From Tuesday February 6 to Thursday February 22 the restaurant will be closed, but the bar will remain open for evening drinks and bar snacks as well as on Sunday lunchtime. From Friday February 23 the Bell will have revised opening times being closed all day on Mondays and Tuesdays and on Wednesday mornings.

ASTRONOMY EVENING

Shenington School is holding an astronomy evening on Monday February 26 from 5.30pm, and have kindly invited residents of Shenington and Alkerton to join in. There will be a slide show about 'The Sky at Night' to start the event at 5.30pm. Afterwards, weather permitting, the talk will move outside to view the night sky. Several amateur astronomers will be available to let you view the moon and stars through their telescopes. The event will be run by the Chipping Norton Astronomy Group,

SOCIAL COMMITTEE EVENTS

Skittles Evening at the Sun, Hook Norton, Friday, March 9, 7 pm. Tickets £15 each include a two-course meal and are available from Katherine Turner tel.670594 and Maria Evans tel. 670016. Numbers are limited so don't delay.

Other events for your diary are Easter Bingo, Monday, March 19, 7.30 pm in the Village Hall.with seasonal prizes and refreshments; AGM of the Social Committee, Wednesday, April 4 in the Hall; Village BBQ, Saturday, June 30, on the Village Green from 5pm.

100 CLUB

For just £2 a month you have the chance to win the first prize of £50 in the monthly draw, while at the same time helping to preserve the Village Hall. Each month there is a draw and 50% of the income is divided amongst three lucky winners.

The Club is open to all members of the villages of Shenington and Alkerton provided they are over 16. Numbers are still available on a pro rata basis. Application forms are available at The Bell or from Maria Evans (phone 01295 670016) for anyone wishing to take part.

SHENFEST  2018

Shenfest 2018 will be held on June 8,9 and 10. Put these dates in your diary and start inviting friends and family. This year’s headline act is award winning classical guitarist Craig Ogden.

CHURCH SERVICE

On Sunday, February 18 there will be a Cafe Church Service at Horley at 10.00am. There will be no service at Shenington or Alkerton that day.
